Governing Board Minutes

Minutes of the June 8, 2004

President Dave Sengpiel called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Those in attendance were Deb Kesse, Lou Grotheer, Dave Sengpiel, Norm Rinderknecht, Ken Wunsch, Faith Spark, Pastor Burcham, and Craig Braget. There were no visitors.

Pastor Burcham opened with a word of prayer. President Dave Sengpiel presented Pastor Burcham his certificate from the Pastoral Leadership Institute and congratulated Pastor Burcham on a job well done.

President Dave Sengpiel requested that the minutes from the May 11, 2004 and May 18, 2004 meetings be approved. Deb Kesse made a motion to approve both sets of minutes as read with a second by Norm Rinderknecht. Motion carried.

Pastor Burcham presented the Senior Pastor's Report to the board. There have been only two Sundays with attendance under 700. The new Adult Ministry brochure is out with 15 different opportunities to become involved. We hope to inspire more participation. The American Girl Camps may have run their course with attendance being down this year. Pastor Tim Phillips and Heather Schmitz will be traveling to Divine Shepherd in Omaha for assimilation. Pastor Tim seems to be fitting in very well at Gloria Dei. The web is still going strong with 100,140 hits on our website. There was an increase in the budget this month because of Pastor Tim Phillips joining the staff.

The April and May financial statements were presented to the board. Ken Wunsch made a motion to accept the April and May financial statements. Deb Kesse seconded the motion. Motion carried.

The parking lot bid from Grimes Asphalt came in at $165,000. This will include more handicap parking around the circle drive plus lighting. There will be a meeting to inform the community about the parking lot expansion at Gloria Dei. This bid does not include the lighting and landscaping.

There has been a positive response concerning the Budget and Ministry Expansion Proposal. At the Voter's Meeting there will be voting on the New Members, the 2004-2005 Budget, and Special Projects. We will be voting on the Special Projects as a package. There has been interest in retractable screens, so we will be adding those to the multimedia proposal.

The Policy Manual will be reviewed at the July meeting. Then we will discuss what our targets will be for the next twelve months. The Governing Board needs to evaluate and keep track of our targets.

There will be a Ministry Retreat for the staff next Tuesday.

Gloria Dei's storage problem will continue to be taken care of by the rental of outside storage space. The Governing Board reminded Pastor Burcham that these kinds of issues are to be directed through the appropriate channels and brought to the board if staff feels it is needed.

No Old Business.

New Business: A huge thank you to Norm Rinderknecht and Dan Snyder for their years of dedication to Gloria Dei.

With no further items to discuss, Ken Wunsch made a motion to adjourn. There was a second by Craig Braget. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 with the Lord's Prayer.

Respectfully submitted by Faith Spark, recording secretary.
