Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Governing Board
June 14, 2011

Marv Rohn offered the opening devotion and prayer.

Call to Order:  President Kevin Kelley announced there was not an official quorum, but called the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m. In attendance were Kevin Kelley, Jason Hoffman, Scott Snyder, Lorrie Graaf, Marv Rohn, and Pastor Burcham.

Not present: Barb Miles, Casey Fluegge, and Mark Kramer.

Visitor Recognition:  Incoming Board member (2011-2012) Wendi Canada was present, as well as Laura Rath as recording secretary.

Monitoring Affirmation:
Parish Paper: The Board briefly discussed the June topic: “What Is the Pastor’s Role in Church Finances?”

Senior Pastor Report:

• Pastor Burcham talked a little about the visit to Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisle, IL.
• Pastor Burcham noted the fall programming will begin in August this year. The sermon series will be “Building a Community of Character” to coincide with the schools. Gloria Dei is working with other Urbandale churches to encourage participation making it a community effort.
• Pastor Burcham noted that he would be in Katy, TX June 21-24 for the Wiki Conference, at which he was asked to be a presenter. June 25-July 1 he would be on vacation.

Annual Meeting: The Board and Pastor Burcham discussed briefly the Annual Meeting held on June 5.

Current Action Items:
Congregational Listening Post – Nothing was heard to discuss.

Housekeeping:

a. Future Topic - Gloria Dei Foundation – Scott Snyder announced that although he completes his second term on the Board at the end of June, he would continue to work with Marv Rohn on the Gloria Dei Foundation.

b. Future Meetings
i. July 12, 2011 Governing Board Meeting (Materials due July 6)

After the Lord’s Prayer, the Board adjourned at 8:03 p.m.
