Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Governing Board
December 13, 2011

Call to Order:  President Mark Kramer called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. In attendance were Casey Fluegge, Jason Hoffman, Wendi Canada, Barb Miles, Marv Rohn, Ann Zimmermann, Mark Kramer, and Pastor Burcham.

Not present were: Kevin Kelley and Bruce Amendt.

Visitor Recognition:  Laura Rath was present as recording secretary.

Consent Agenda:

• The minutes from the November 8, 2011 meeting were accepted by consensus.
• The minutes from the November 16, 2011 Special Meeting were accepted by consensus.
• After discussion, the financial report was accepted by consensus.

Monitoring Affirmation:
Parish Paper: The Board briefly discussed the November topic How Do We Successfully Launch a New Project?

Senior Pastor Report:

• The IDW District Convention is June 24-26, 2012 at Camp Okoboji. As a congregation of the District, we have the opportunity to nominate people for the offices of District President and Vice President.

Marv Rohn made a motion to nominate Rev. Paul Sieveking as District President and Rev. Steve Turner as 1st Vice President. Wendi Canada seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Gloria Dei is allowed one lay delegate and one alternate. President Mark Kramer expressed interest and will let Pastor Burcham know his availability.

• Pastor Burcham gave an update of the work being done by the four multi-site MATs. The Facilities MAT has switched gears to look at the Aurora campus. On Dec. 12, 2011, the MAT met with the architect and began the process of master planning the Aurora Campus. The master plan can then be broken down into projects for individual cost estimates.

Communication MAT: 55 people have viewed the Cottage Meeting video online, 200 people have viewed the multi-site page, and 60 people have downloaded the magazine.

• Pastor Burcham reported that 60 people attended the Senior Adult Ministry Christmas party at June Reed’s house. In January, Pastors Boeschen and Foreman will take over the Wednesday morning Bible study class from Pastor Robarge.
• Pastor Burcham noted that he will be out of the office for vacation Dec. 25-Jan. 1

Policy Manual Review: The Board reviewed the changes made to Sections 3-4 of the policy manual. Casey Fluegge made a motion to approve the changes, seconded by Jason Hoffman. Motion carried.
The Board reviewed Appendices E, F, and G of the policy manual and made changes. Secretary Barb Miles will make the changes for the Board to approve at the January meeting.

Current Action Items:
Congregational Listening Post – The Board discussed positive feedback heard regarding the Comprehensive Plan, as well as comments of concern for the Aurora campus being lumped together with the Hickman campus, concern that one site would be traditional worship and the other contemporary, and a note of disappointment in not finding one location.

Voting Documents: The Voting Committee will meet on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 to review the process for the voting weekend.
