Call to Order: President Kevin Kelley called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
In attendance were Marv Rohn, Jason Hoffman, Lorrie Graaf, Barb Miles, Kevin Kelley, Casey Fluegge, Mark Kramer, Pamela Henkel and Pastor Burcham.
Scott Snyder was not present.
Visitor Recognition: Laura Rath was present as recording secretary.
Monitoring Affirmation:
Parish Paper: The Board discussed the November topic: What Are the Big-Picture Trends in Congregations?
Policy Review: The Board reviewed Section 2, Board Self-Governance and Section 3, Board-Staff Relations and discussed changes where necessary. Secretary Jason Hoffman will make the changes for the Board to approve at the December meeting. Section 4 of the Policy Manual will be reviewed and discussed at the December meeting.
Consent Agenda:
- The minutes from the October 12, 2010 meeting were accepted by consensus.
- After discussion, the financial report was accepted by consensus.
Senior Pastor Report:
- Pastor Burcham noted that he will be in Dallas November 14-17 for the PLI Missional Summit.
- Pastor Burcham reported on Concordia Health Plans health insurance rate increases for the next year. The Board asked questions and chose to discuss in executive session at the end of the meeting.
- Pastor Burcham reported that two teams have been assembled to investigate the possibility of relocating youth ministry off-site and multi-site ministry. The work of these teams will include investigating possible location and ministry opportunities and acquiring information necessary to inform the congregation. A communications team has also been formed to ensure communication to and from the congregation.
- Pastor Burcham gave an update on the 2010/2011 Initiatives:
- Weekly Word articles have been published describing the new Hospitality Ministry that is built around each venue.
- Spiritual Growth – the recently completed sermon series on the Ten Commandments was intended to take worshipers deeper into the Bible. The series for January—April 2011 will cover key events from the Old Testament to the resurrection.
- Executive Director Bill Jesse presented the first module of the leadership pipeline curriculum to ministry staff on November 8-9.
