September 9, 2008
Call to Order: President Ken Wunsch called the meeting to order at 6:31 p.m. In attendance were Pastor Burcham, Doug Pals, Marv Rohn, Laurie Peterson, Mark Pierson, Ken Wunsch, Shawn Woolman, and Kevin Kelley, and Scott Snyder.
Visitor Recognition: Laura Rath was present as recording secretary.
Consent Agenda:
- The minutes from the August 2008 meeting were approved by consensus.
- There was no financial report this month.
Monitoring Affirmation:
Parish Paper: Brief discussion on topic: “The Change Agent’s Checklist”
Senior Pastor Report:
- Strategic Planning Update – Pastor Burcham emphasized that the right choice was made in choosing an architect. SVPA brings expertise in looking at sites objectively and give and take with the group.
- Town Hall Meetings will be scheduled for October to lay out the step-by-step procedures for evaluating potential sites and negotiating purchasing land in preparation for a congregational vote. The process will include congregational input.
- Mission Festival – On Sunday, Sept. 14, 4-5:30 p.m., Gloria Dei will host the first of eight Mission Ignition festivals, as part of the Synod’s Fan Into Flame campaign.
After the service, from 6-7 p.m., Rev. Charles Bameka, from Lutheran Church Mission in Uganda, will be the speaker at a light dinner held in the Family Life
Center.
- Pastor Burcham discussed the church’s first contemporary based funeral held Monday, Sept. 8. The well received service was a celebration of life.
ENDS – Brief review and discussion.
Actions:
Listening Post - Brief discussion.
Desired Outcomes Reporting: The Board discussed what & how much reporting is necessary to monitor progress towards the Ends.
Succession Plan Committee – The Board discussed work on a plan to be put into place in the event of a short-term or long-term absence of the Senior Pastor.
Adjournment: After the Lord’s Prayer, the meeting was adjourned at 8:29 p.m.
